Summer Camp 2019 Decision Time

A scout may decide to attend summer camp to earn merit badges or nights camped for rank advancement.  He may be motivated to attend to meet other scouts and live for the week communing with nature in a tent he didn’t have to pitch! Camp lends itself to leadership skill building, living the patrol method, and good old fashion fun; call it a mini-vacation. Older and higher ranking scouts may feel that they have “Been there. Done that.”  Perhaps the idea of a NEW adventure will rekindle the scout summer camp fire.

Below are links and materials used at the troop meeting on November 28th.  Where will the summer camp adventure take Troop 242 in 2019? (-Mrs. Carrie Mokry, Summer Camp Coordinator)

Summer Court of Honor

The fourth step in scouting’s rank advancement is The scout is recognized. Our summer Court of Honor was time to celebrate rank advancement, the presentation of merit badges, and an Oh beautiful Scoutmaster Minute.  We shared food and friendship with our family and friends.

William’s Eagle Project

eagle1Sixteen acoustical soundboards  were refabricated and installed in Peninsula Catholic’s Gym. There was a total of 124 service hours completed on this project. The object of the project was to reduce echoing in the gym. The soundboards have had a huge effect in the gym and the school really appreciates the troop and what we did for them. The troop participation played a major factor and the hard work of the boys helped this project run smoothly. (-William)

Shelter in a Stable

There was unstable weather, so we camped in a stable.  When the weather cleared out, our SPL and ASPL lead us on a hike.  The road to Old Rag was flooded so we hiked the horse trails.  Try this calculation:  2,000 steps equals 1 mile. How many miles did we hike, if we took approximately 22,000 steps?Photo May 19, 10 04 39 PM

The SPL and ASPL, used the EDGE method to teach scouting skills including Firem’n Chip and Toten Chip.

A BIG thank you to William, our AWESOME SPL, for your patient leadership while everyone took a turn at cooking for rank advancement.
