Carl’s Court of Honor

The highlight of scouting is obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Some scouts gathered recently at the Scottish Rite Temple to honor Carl for his Eagle Court of Honor. It was a nice celebration for him and his family and for other scouts to talk about memories they shared on campouts. Congratulations to Carl for a job well done!

May Court of Honor

One of the time honored traditions is the Court of Honor. It’s a time when we get to celebrate the achievements of our scouts. From merit badges to rank advancements. Another added bonus is the plethora of food to eat!

Getting wet

Its been a while since the troop had a carwash fundraiser. It was a light drizzle of rain to start the day off. A few customers came by to help with our fundraiser. It was a great day overall, despite the cloudy overcast and a thank you to Advance Auto for allowing us the space to do the carwash.

Crossover Campout

During our crossover campout we welcomed three new scouts to Troop 242! Dexter, Lucas, Carmela crossed over from Pack 242 to Troop 242 during their Blue and Gold banquet. We took them back to our campsite and they got started right away on rank requirements. They also earned their Totin’ Chip and Firem’n Chit. Scouts also worked on a Conservation Project and Jack was presented with his official neckerchief and epaulettes.

Lumberjack 2024

Troop 242 attended the Colonial Virginia Council Lumberjack campout. This is a fun event where there are multiple stations set up throughout the large field at Historic Endview. The stations are set up around scout skills and it is a competition between multiple patrols. Some of the stations included first aid skills, fire starting, 2 man saw, log chopping, log rolling, animal tracking, and tomahawk throwing. There were many more stations and all of them required teamwork and scout spirit! Troop 242 G was awarded the Golden Axe. It was a fun weekend for all!

Scout Sunday

A Scout honors their Duty to God. This is central to our Scout Oath and Law. February 4th, 2024 was our annual Scout Sunday. BSA packs, troops, crews, and ships attended Mass in their uniforms across the nation. Troop 242, along with Pack 242, gathered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church inside Saint Michael’s Hall. For scouts and their families, Scout Sunday is a very special day.

Winter Court of Honor

Troop 242 came together to celebrate our Court of Honor this past week. There was food, fellowship, and we celebrated many achievements of our scouts. It is always a great time and as we do every year we ended it by singing Silent Night. It is a great way to end our scouting calendar year and look forward to 2024 filled with fun!

Troop 242’s Newest Eagle Scout – Braden

Congratulations to our newest Eagle Scout, Braden! Achieving this rank reflects a lot of dedication, leadership skills, and commitment to service within the community. His perseverance and the positive impact he’s made on the community stands out. Scoutmaster Mr. Grieme had this to say about Braden’s Eagle Board of Review: “The board was very impressed with Braden’s performance and enjoyed the broad discussion on his journey to Eagle.”
